Here you will find more about: ► Leonardo da Vinci ► Aesop ► Câmara Cascudo
Leonardo da Vinci was born in Italy on April 15th, 1452.
Millions of people know da Vinci as the artist who painted Mona Lisa, the most famous painting in the world.
He is considered to have been a genius, for he was an outstanding anatomist, engineer, mathematician, musician, naturalist, architect, urban planner, philosopher, physicist, botanist, inventor, writer, and sculptor. We can add one more quality to this list: Leonardo was a mega MAKER!
A highly-creative inventor, Leonardo imagined, BEFORE ANYONE ELSE IN THE WHOLE WORLD, the helicopter, war tanks, the submarine, the bicycle, the diving-suit… Many years (centuries!) later, it all came true.
Being a curious scientist, he wanted to know everything about everything, about the meaning and purpose of things. Therefore, he sought to unravel the mysteries of anatomy by drawing the human body in minute detail.

As a philosopher, he wanted to establish the place of humans in the world, why we are here and why we live on this planet.
As a musician, he built his own musical instruments (a maker at heart!) and wrote pieces that he himself executed, always with a cheering audience.
As a writer, da Vinci was also a storyteller. His fables stood the test of time, and one of his favorite themes is freedom.
British art historian Kenneth Clark [1903-1983] once said: "Leonardo da Vinci was the most persistently curious person in history”.
He is considered to be the father of sfumato, a technique which creates perfect gradients in a painting, using light and shade.
He always recorded everything in his notebooks: drafts, thoughts, emotions, plans, and other reflections. Some of his notes were encoded.
He had a special ability to mix art and science. He used to say that a good artist must also be a good scientist to better understand and describe nature.
Aesop was born in Greece around 620 B.C.
Being considered the first fabulist ever, Aesop might have introduced this storytelling style to convince people to use common sense. .
Fables differ from short stories due to some characteristics, one of the most important of which is the fact that they always have a moral lesson.
Also, fables often have only animals as characters. Those animals are given human qualities.
There is little information about Aesop. That is why it is quite usual to doubt his existence, just like with Homer!
Aesop was sold as a slave to a philosopher, who, impressed with his intelligence, decided to set him free.
There are a few details allegedly about Aesop’s biography, which cannot be attested to. He might have been physically handicapped and might have had speech difficulties; he could have also been a protégé of the king of Croesus.
The first written versions of Aesop’s Fables date back to the third century D.C.. Many translations have been done into a number of languages; there is not a single one that can be considered closest to the original version, though.
Before being printed on paper, Aesop’s Fables had been illustrated on china, manuscripts, and even fabric.
Aesopian fables are generally short, good-humored narratives related to day-to-day life, with advice about loyalty, generosity, friendship and responsibility.
